Lakewood, CO (June 7, 2014) – Muscle Milk Honda Racing’s Trey Canard and Valli Motorsports/Yamaha’s Christophe Pourcel posted the fastest time in qualifying for today’s round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross series at Thunder Valley Raceway in Lakewood, Colorado.
Canard came on strong late in qualifying, posting a time that was just over two-tenths faster than last week’s winner, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen, on a lush and rutted track that was still moist from pre-practice watering.
JGRMX/Toyota Yamaha’s Josh Grant, who won the first moto of the season at Glen Helen, was third fastest, coming in less than a tenth slower than Roczen.
Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey was fourth with Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart another half second back in fifth.
The second half of the top 10 looked like Jake Weimer in sixth, ahead of his Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Brett Metcalfe. Eighth was BTO Sports KTM’s Andrew Short, while ninth and 10th were Lucas Oil TLD Honda’s Malcolm Stewart and Hookit Yamaha rider Kellian Rusk, from Colorado.
In the 250 class, Pourcel was fastest for the third straight week, beating out GEICO Honda’s Zach Bell for top honors by .177 seconds.
The third qualifying spot went to Monster Energy Pro Circuit’s Josh Hill, with Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin, winner of the first two rounds of the series, finishing practice in the fourth-place slot, .150 seconds slower than Hill.
Hill’s Pro Circuit teammate Blake Baggett rounded out the top five.
Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson was fastest among the second half of the top 10, with Kyle Peters, Kyle Cunningham, Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin and Lucas Oil/TLD Honda’s Jessy Nelson rounding out the rest of the top 10.
The weather during practice was perfect, slightly overcast and cool, however, the threat of an afternoon storm looms heavy over the area but officials are not as worried about rain as they are high winds that wrecked havoc on the race two years ago.
