BIRMINGHAM, AL. (Saturday, June 21, 2014) — Jake Lewis broke through to score his first career pole in Daytona SportBike Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park. Lewis ran his MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha R6 to a time of 1:27.579 to top the charts in the final DSB qualifying session.  Garrett Gerloff will start second with a time of 1:27.687, saying he is fully recovered from the hard crash at Road America earlier this month. Series leader Jake Gagne rounds out the front row clocking in at 1:27.712, recovering after a tip over early in the session.

“I’ve been working really hard these last three weeks,” said a grinning Lewis. “It was disappointing coming off Road America, so I came into here working really hard and with a lot of confidence. I really want to get that first win, but to get the pole position means a lot to me. Being up on the front row, hopefully I can get off to a good start and put in some good laps. Everyone’s going pretty good. It’s hot so it’s going to be a tough 19 laps. I think it’ll be a good battle.”

The Triumphs of Jason DiSalvo and Bobby Fong, along with Yamaha rider Dane Westby fill the second row. JD Beach, Danny Eslick and Steve Rapp are on row three in the talented 22-rider field.
