BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 22, 2014) – HSBK Racing Yamaha’s Dustin Dominguez had his hands full with Saturday’s SuperSport winner Hayden Gillim and young Kaleb De Keyrel, but Dominguez used his racing experience to pull away on the final few laps when the top three hit heavy lapped traffic. In the end the margin of victory for Domingues was 1.178 seconds. It marked the first win of the season for the Oklahoman.

Gillim’s second, combined with Corey Alexander’s fourth, means those two are now tied atop the series standings. Dominguez also closed up in the standings into a close third.

Dominguez got the holeshot, but it was Gillim coming to the front and leading the first lap over De Keyrel and Dominguez. Those three quickly separated from the rest of the large field. On lap four Dominguez moved his way to the front with a nice move in a tight corner on Gillim.

On lap four the three riders ran virtually side by side across start finish in what was shaping up to be the race of the weekend. Dominguez emerged the leader as they braked into turn one.

The race settled down in the middle stages with Dominguez leading Hayden and De Keyrel staying close. Series leader Alexander led the rest of the field in fourth ahead of Curtis Murray and Miles Thornton.

The closing laps saw the leading trio encounter a lot of traffic in the 40-plus rider field. Dominguez, being in the lead, seemed to be able to pick the best times to pass the lapped riders to put a little distance between himself and the other two.

It worked perfectly for Dominguez and he was able to open up his biggest lead of the race on the white flag lap. He held steady on the final lap.

“The team busted their butts giving me a bike that could win,” Dominguez said. “I thank all the fans coming out here and sticking with us in this heat.”
