Kailub Russell got back on the winning track after recording a wire-to-wire victory at the Mountaineer Run GNCC, the seventh round of the Amsoil Grand National Cross Country Series in Masontown, West Virginia, May 25.

Russell got out in front early and sprinted away, though his FMF KTM teammate and series leader Charlie Mullins kept him honest for the first half of the race. That’s when Mullins suffered a hard get-off and wasn’t able to mount any kind of a challenge to Russell after that. Mullins, however, managed to maintain second, taking the checkered flag one minute and 48 seconds behind Russell.

Although Russell gained a few points on Mullins, Mullins still leads by seven points.

Third on the day went to AmPro Yamaha’s Josh Strang who crossed the finish line about a minute behind Mullins.

Ricky Russell won the XC2 Pro Lites class.

Fourth went to Strang’s teammate Jordan Ashburn, while Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong rounded out the top five overall.

In XC2 Pro Lites, Yamaha rider Ricky Russell claimed the win over Honda rider Trevor Bollinger and KTM’s Grant Baylor. Russell has a six-point lead over Russell in the class championship.

FMF KTM’s Kacy Martinez recorded her sixth win of the season in the Women’s division. She now has a 19-point cushion in the championship chase.
