MotoTrials: Czech Junior Champ Matejicek To Compete In US Trials Series

Czech Republic Junior Trials Champ Martin Matejicek will be competing in this year’s eight-round Aires AMA/NATC MotoTrial USA National Championship, riding a Gas Gas in the Pro division for US Importer Gas Gas USA, bolstering a thin but very competitive top class in the US series that will see three of it’s top riders miss the series opener in Colorado due to obligations in Europe and elsewhere.

Matejicek is 18 years old and was a member of the Czech Trial des Nations team that edged out the US squad for second in the International division at last year’s Trial des Nations in France.

In 2013, Matejicek finished second in the top class in the Czech Republic national series and he was fifth in the European Championship Junior Division.

In the US series, Matejicek is expected to challenge six-time US champ Patrick Smage, who is an odds-on favorite to claim his seventh title, especially with many of his top rivals unable to contest the entire series.

Cody Webb, the 2010 national trials champ, will only ride the final round of the trials series due to commitments to the GEICO AMA EnduroCross series, which he hopes to win in 2014.

In addition, Sherco USA riders Bryan Roper and Karl Davis Jr. will be in Europe during part of the US schedule, riding select rounds of the World Junior Championship series.

The Aires AMA/NATC MotoTrials US National Championship gets underway on May 24-25 in Texas Creek, Colorado, before moving across the country to Sedan, Kansas, on May 31-June 1st for rounds three and four.

Rounds five and six will be held at Valley View, Pennsylvania, on June 21-22, before moving on to the series finale at the Trial Training Center on  June 28-29.
