Rockstar Energy Team’s Joey Savatgy says he’s happy to be on the bike again. We caught up with the Georgian who was sidelined just before the start of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, where he was going to contest the 250 class.

Savatgy suffered a number of injuries when he crashed while training in California. Some of those injuries included a concussion, a collapsed lung and a banged up shoulder, but the one injury that cost the KTM rider most was one to his wrist. A broken bone in the wrist required surgery and a lengthy healing process.

“Yeah, it was the wrist that gave me the most problem,” said Savatgy who was out practicing today at Lucas Oil MX Park (Starwest) in Perris, California. “It was a small bone but it gets little blood flow in that area, so it’s taken a little while to heal up. I’ve only been on the bike three times now, but everything is feeling good.”

Savatgy said that he spent most of his recovery time at home in Georgia, where he had the surgery and has been doing therapy.

“I’m happy to be on the bike again, that’s for sure,” he said. “It can drive you crazy when you can’t ride for such a long time.”

Savatgy said that he’s basically training and getting back up to speed for the opening round of the outdoor Nationals, which gets underway mid-May. He did say, however, that he might ride the final round of the Supercross Series at Las Vegas just to get at least one race under his belt before the Nationals.

“I can’t wait to get out there again.”
