GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle’s first ever Supercross victory at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, marked the end of the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team’s perfect win streak in the 2014 250 East Supercross division. And for Bogle, the victory was long awaited and a perfect way to start celebrating his 21st birthday a day early.
“I finally got a good start, which made [racing for the win] a lot easier,” said Bogle, who led all 15 laps. “It’s crazy. I crossed the finish line and I didn’t even know what to do. I’ve thought so much about what I’d do when I got my first win, but I don’t know. I just turned the corner [after the finish] and dropped my bike. I’m just so overwhelmed right now.”
Finishing second to Bogle was Pro Circuit’s Martin Davalos, who moved into the points lead with his second-place finish and his teammate’s misfortunes – Adam Cianciarulo having to retire, and Blake Baggett having crashed out near the end of the race.
“The track got really tough and I ended up making a mistake about halfway through,” said Davalos. “Luckily we were able to recover and still get a good finish, so I’ll take it. We gained a lot of points tonight, but there’s still a lot of racing left this season.”
Points leader Cianciarulo was trying to soldier on with an injured shoulder that he dislocated earlier in the day in the second practice session. The Asterisk medical staff quickly treated the injury and Cianciarulo was able to come back and finish third in his heat, but unfortunately his shoulder was not able to hold up in the main. He dislocated it again while negotiating the whoop section on lap four. He pulled off to have it put back in place and tried to ride through the pain to salvage some points but ultimately had to retire moments later.
Getting his best career finish and first podium was Matt Lemoine on the JAB Motorsports Kawasaki.
MyPlash/Rockstar Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin was also chasing his first podium but had to settle for fourth.
Rockstar Energy Cole Thompson, on the KTM, finished fifth ahead of the Factory Metal Works Honda of Vince Friese.
Finishing seventh was Rock River Yamaha’s Alex Martin who led a bunch of Hondas – MotoConcepts Racing’s Kyle Cunningham in eighth, Thompson’s teammate A.J. Catanzaro in ninth, and privateer Jimmy Decotis in 10th.
