Defending MX2 World Champion Jeffrey Herlings will sit out this weekend’s round of the MX2 World Championship in Brazil due to an injury he suffered while racing last week’s round of the Dutch National Championships.

According to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Herlings took a painful blow to his shoulder and the team has decided he should rest it this weekend to ensure he recovers complete fitness as soon as possible.

“We naturally regret that Jeffrey will not be on the grid for the Brazil round as we are sure his fans will be disappointed,” said Pit Beirer, KTM Head of Motorsports. “But the season is long and we feel he is well advised to sit this one out.”

After two rounds, Herlings leads the MX2 standings by a 23-point margin over French rider Dylan Ferrandis.
