Eric Yorba played in the mud and came out squeaky clean at the Big 6 WCGP/West Hare Scrambles National at Glen Helen Raceway over the March 1-2 weekend. In wet, windy and muddy conditions, thanks to a rare Southern California rain storm, Yorba, on the FMF/RPM Racing/Bonanza Plumbing KTM, took top honors in the weekend’s premier race, the combined AMA West Coast Grand Prix and West National Hare Scrambles Series.

KTM-mounted Gary Sutherlin gave Yorba a race until his bike gave out, then Husqvarna’s Jacob Argubright gave chase for a while. At one point, the two were neck and neck until Yorba started to creep away from the desert racer, Argubright, who pulled off his goggles and had troubles seeing. He finished about two and a half minutes behind Yorba but still leads the Hare Scrambles Championship having already won the first two rounds of the series.

Third overall went to Rockstar/Lucas Oil/JCR Honda’s Colton Haaker.

Former National Hare Scrambles champ Brian Garrahan, who grabbed the early lead on this Garrahan Off-Road Training Husqvarna, ended up fourth, with 3-Brothers KTM’s Kevin Barbosa winning the Pro II class in fifth overall.

Kariya spends way too much time in the desert, but we’re glad he does as he’s the man who gets us our coverage of all things sandy.
