Andrew DeLong Ready For Tomorrow's Concho Enduro

Blackwell, Texas (March 22, 2014) Andrew DeLong was a surprise winner at last year’s Concho Enduro in Blackwell, Texas.

After signing during the off-season to ride for the Husqvarna Factory Race, DeLong is hoping to repeat that performance at tomorrow’s Concho Enduro, which is round two of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series.

“I’ve been looking forward to this race for a long time,” said DeLong. “This race is a lot different from the rest of the series and it’s actually one of my favorite races on the calendar and I’m excited to be here. I think that’s the key to doing well in this type of terrain, is making up your mind that you like it. It can get pretty sketchy out there and a lot of guys don’t like riding here, but I’m programmed my mind to like it and that’s why I do well here.

The Concho Enduro is located on the Texana Ranch, which is in the desert-like terrain of west Texas. The trails are fast and dusty, with some gnarly and loose hillclimbs and a few tight and deep ravines thrown into the mix. You certainly don’t want to crash in this stuff, either, since the most likely landing spot will be on some type of thorny plant or venomous reptile.

“This is pretty much a hard-packed surface and it gets pretty slick, sort of a blue-groove with silt on top,” said DeLong. “There is a bit of tight stuff, but for the most part it’s pretty fast.”

Charlie Mullins comes into the race holding the points lead, and looking to defend the national enduro title he won last year, however, the FMF/KTM rider had his worst finish of the year at this race with an 11th. For sure, the Concho Enduro is one of those races that can jump up and bite you when you least expect it.
