In addition to the usual suspects, there’s a new player in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series when it comes to podium contenders, and that’s Justin Brayton. The JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha rider’s spectacular runner-up finish at the Phoenix round places Brayton on the watch list for potential podium finishers and there are a few pundits out there who think he’s just a holeshot away from getting his first main event win.

Coming into today’s race at Anaheim III, Brayton told Cycle News that he’s especially ready for A3 after having his best week of practice so far this year.

A big part of Brayton’s program is his trainer Nathan Ramsey, and Ramsey told us that he and Brayton changed things up a bit in preparation for today’s race.

“Basically, you go off the week before, evaluate it and decide what you need to work on,” said Ramsey. “This week we had a little bit of a change in our mindset and we exercised that in our practice sessions this week and I’m really excited about where we went with it and I think Justin is excited about it too.

“Every step of the way in this little journey we are on is a conscious decision, and if it’s one percent every weekend then we’re going in the right direction. All we’re trying to bite off a little bit more each week and I honestly feel that this week was the best week we’ve had leading in.”
