Adam Cianciarulo leads Blake Baggett in Arlington

Not since Trey Canard turned the trick in 2008 has a rookie won his debut ride in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, yet that’s just what Adam Cianciarulo did this past weekend in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, during the opening race of the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship.

The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider was impressive from the start, grabbing holeshots in his heat race and in the main event, Cianciarulo went on to beat teammate Blake Baggett to the line in both races.

In the main, Cianciarulo and Baggett opened a significant advantage over the rest of the field before Baggett made a pass on Cianciarulo for the lead on Lap seven. Cianciarulo responded quickly, however, and retook the lead in the next turn and he was never headed again.

At the finish, Cianciarulo finished the race with five seconds to spare over Baggett, who was second.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Cianciarulo. “It doesn’t even feel real, it feels like I’m dreaming. I didn’t expect this at all. I mean, I was having some good weeks coming into this, and then everything went perfect. Both holeshots, I can’t even believe it.

“I got the holeshot and then Martin got by me right away, then he started pulling away, I mean the guy has been riding great during the week. He pretty much had it, but then he made a mistake and I was able to get around him. I’m pretty bummed for him, but I’ll take it.”

Cianciarulo will be trying to defend his points lead this weekend in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
