Trey Canard is looking to return to racing at the Detroit round of the Supercross series.

Trey Canard is hoping for a return to racing at the Detroit round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, the Team Muscle Milk Honda rider revealed today during a phone call with Cycle News.

Canard broke his arm over the Thanksgiving weekend while practicing for this year’s Supercross series, and had surgery to plate the broken bone about eight weeks ago. He had hoped to return much soon than the March 15th date of the Detroit round, but the injury is taking longer than expected.

“It ended up being worse than I had originally made it out to be,” said Canard. “It’s been a long process but these things take time. I’ve been through this before and I don’t want to rush it, although it’s hard to sit here watch everyone else out there racing.”

The former East Lites Supercross champion is scheduled to get an evaluation on February 10th and if he gets the green light from his doctor then he’ll start riding again with an eye on the Detroit return, which is March 15th.

“Once I get on the bike and see how it feels then I’ll know more, but that’s the plan for now,” said Canard. “I can’t wait to get back on the bike and get back to doing what I really love.

Canard had a successful 2013 season, highlighted by his sixth-place overall finish in the Supercross series and fourth overall in the Motocross standings.
