Phoenix, Arizona (January 11, 2014) – The 250 main event in the Western Regional 250SX Class Championship main event in Phoenix was almost a mirror image of last week’s race in Anaheim, at least for the top two riders: Jason Anderson and Cole Seely. For the second week in a row, Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson made a last-lap pass on Seely to take the win after Seely lead most of the race.

Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb grabbed the holeshot to start the 15-lap main event, but before the end of the first lap, Seely passed his way into the lead, moving around both Webb and Anderson in the same corner. After that, the Designs/Lucas Oil Honda rider held off a hard-charging Anderson until the final lap when Anderson made a spectacular pass to take the win.

“I was out for redemption tonight,” said Anderson. “I got a good start, like I have been all season. I don’t plan on those last-lap passes, but it was there and I needed to take it. My goal is to keep control of the red number plate so I’ll do whatever it takes to do that. I really want it.”
Naturally, Seely was upset at barely missing out on a win on consecutive weeks.

“I’m bummed,” said Seely. “I’ve been battling stomach issues all week, so was struggling with that. I felt (my stomach) tighten up late in the race and I just made a mistake and Jason got me again.”
GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne outdueled Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson for third, while Designs/Lucas Oil Honda rider Malcolm Stewart worked his way through the pack to finish fifth.

With two races in the books, Anderson head up the 250 class points standings by six points over Seely, 50 to 44, with Osborne sitting third at 40 points.
