It looks like Eli Tomac won’t be racing this Saturday in Oakland, for round four of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Originally, the GEICO Honda rider had hoped he would be ready to ride by this weekend after hurting his shoulder in a heat race crash at Anaheim 1. Although tests showed no series damage, Tomac decided to sit out a few rounds to give the injury a chance to fully heal.

According to team sources, Tomac says he’s in much better shape and he’s cleared by his doctors to do whatever he wants, however, the 450-class rookie feels he needs to regain some fitness and have several days of riding before racing again. The source added that Tomac is now shooting for an A3 return.

Tomac actually tried to ride practice at Phoenix, but pulled off after one lap and decided the shoulder was not strong enough to handle racing at that point.
