Eli Tomac came into the 2014 Supercross season with lots of fanfare, the GEICO Honda rider riding a wave of momentum after a dominating 250-class outdoor season and a few impressive rides the last two years on a 450. However, at the series opener last week at Anaheim, the Colorado native got together with Jake Weimer in their heat race and went down, injuring his shoulder. In Phoenix, Tomac tried to ride practice, but called it off after just one lap.

“I tried one lap and that’s all I could do,” said Tomac. “I had to try because I wanted to get points if I could, but my shoulder wasn’t ready. There’s nothing wrong with it, I’ve had an MRI and it was good. It’s just a stretched tendon and bruised muscle and they said give it a week, but I’m going to give it a couple. So I’d say the earliest I’m going to be back is Oakland.”
