PJ Jacobsen will race a Kawasaki in the 2014 World Supersport Championship, the New Yorker officially announced today after testing the bike recently in Spain.

Jacobsen will ride for the established Intermoto Ponyexpres Kawasaki team on one of its ZX-6Rs. The Intermoto team has two fourth-place finishes to its credit over the past two seasons with the likes of Luca Scassa, David Salom and Florian Marino at the controls. Scassa finished eighth in the 2013 championship with Marino 13th in the final standings.

The 2014 team will feature Jacobsen, Marino and Tony Covena, an upstart from the European 600cc Superstock Championship.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity,” Jacobsen, who finished ninth in the British Superbike Championship in 2013. “I’ll be racing in front of some of the world’s most enthusiastic fans with some of the world’s best racers, on one of the world’s best motorcycles. It’s really an honor to have this opportunity. I’d like to thank all my sponsors and fans who have helped me get to this level.”

Jacobsen rode as a fill-in rider for the Bogdanka Honda PTR team in 2012, finishing 13th in the wet Dutch round at Assen.
