According to reports from Europe, it now looks as though Nicky Hayden will be on a Honda in the 2014 MotoGP World Championship with Aspar team owner Jorge Martinez changing his mind and opting not to use Aprilia power next year.

Instead the team will use Honda’s new production MotoGP racer, reuniting Hayden with the brand that got him to MotoGP in the first place and with whom he won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006.

What apparently changed Martinez’ mind was the announcement that Aprilia racing boss Gigi Dall’Igna was leaving to join Ducati. With Dall’Igna leaving, faith in Aprilia’s ability to compete at the top level is being questioned.

Word from the Malaysian Grand Prix on the weekend was that the Aspar team was also considering using this year’s Ducati GP13.

No word yet on who Hayden’s teammate will be. Aleix Espargaro, Eugene Laverty, Yonny Hernandez?

The team is expected to make the Honda announcement this weekend in Australia.
