The final round of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship descended on the SoCal city of Lake Elsinore. Yoshimura had a big showing with Eli Tomac’s 250 class Championship title and final round victory. Eli Tomac and Justin Barica have been chosen for the 2013 Des Nations USA team and debuted their red, white, and blue machines to race fans.
Yoshimura-powered GEICO Honda Rider Eli Tomac capped off his championship winning season with an overall victory at the series’ final round. The crowd went wild, as Eli Tomac laid down the season’s best pass on Jeremy Martin – where Tomac stepped-on to a tabletop as Martin was still in the air. Tomac put the power to the ground, getting by Martin and finished the moto in 2nd. Eli Tomac would once again race to a 2nd place finish in moto 2, only to be moved to 1st, after race winner Blake Baggett was penalized for his jump under the medical flag. Teammate Zach Osborne pulled back to back holeshots, which included a stylish moto 1 wheelie nearly the whole way to the first turn.
Yoshimura riders James Stewart and Wil Hahn each secured the Motorcycle-Superstore Holeshot Championships in their 450 and 250 classes. Yoshimura-backed rider Zach Osborne also scored back to back holeshots in the 250 class. Yoshimura backed machines have captures more holeshots during the 2013 outdoor season than any other brand. GEICO riders Wil Hahn and Justin Bogle finished strong with 6th and 8th, respectively. With the 2013 Championship completed, and the points tallied up, GEICO Honda Riders finished 1st (Tomac), 5th (Osborne), 7th (Bogle), and 13th (Hahn).
Yoshimura-backed Muscle Milk Honda rider Justin Barcia made the podium at Lake Elsinore with a 3rd overall and teammate Trey Canard finished with a respectable 6th. Justin Barcia ran in 2nd for a considerable amount of time in moto 1, before he was relegated to 5th by the time the checkered flag came out. In moto 2, Justin started inside the top 3 and never left. He finished behind Team USA teammate Ryan Dungey with 3rd and 3rd place overall. Canard had a great moto 1, with a solid 4th place finish, just ahead of Barcia. Canard was able to finish with 6th overall, and retain his position in the Championship. The Justin Barcia and Trey Canard duo finished 3rd and 4th in the Championship, respectively.
Yoshimura backed RCH Suzuki rider Broc Tickle rode to an incredibly solid 10th overall. If there were a year-end award for Mr. Consistent, then Tickle would be a top contender. The RCH Suzuki rider finished 2013 by taking 8th place in the 450 Championship.
Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart was missing from the action on Saturday, due to a recent injury. Despite his absence from the final round, Stewart was still able to hang on to 5th place in the Championship. He will use the time off, in order to train and focus on the 2014 AMA/FIM Supercross Championships, which begin early January.
Yoshimura riders will make their return to AMA Pro Racing in January for the opening round of the 2014 AMA/FIM Supercross Championships in Anaheim, California.
