Just two riders made it into the one minute, 50-second bracket in AMA Pro Superbike qualifying Saturday at Miller Motorsports Park and they both wore blue. In a close session Josh Hayes once again came through to win the pole over his Monster Energy/Graves Motorsports Yamaha teammate Josh Herrin. It was close between the two with Hayes turning a 1:50.268 to Herrin’s 1:50.534.

For Hayes it kept his perfect pole wins season alive, now having earned the pole at all six rounds so far this season. And for Herrin the close session proves that he is continuing to chip away at the gap to his teammate and could still provide a threat in the championship this season.

Rounding out the front row starters for this weekend’s doubleheader are National Guard/Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden and Yoshimura

Hayes was able to overcome an issue with his bike in the session that wouldn’t allow it to rev over 6000 rpm. The Yamaha crew was able to fix the issue allowing Hayes to score the pole. Hayes talked about the problem.

“The session started off a little dodgy,” Hayes said. “Had a little snafu I had to ride around the track at about 50 miles per hour. I came in and let the boys do some work. I believe it was something with the fuel line or something like that. They got it sorted out and I was able to go out and get up to speed really quickly. The boys did some good work and came up with a setting today that made the bike a lot more comfortable. I feel like I can put it where I want it to be on the racetrack.

“I feel good about the race today. As long as I’m up there battling for the win for 16 laps I’ll be pretty happy.”

In Daytona SportBike it was Cameron Beaubier also keeping his perfect pole streak alive for 2013. The undeniable star of DSB clocked a 1:53.288 on his Yamaha Extended Service Yamaha R6. He was the only rider in the 53s. Garrett Gerloff, Jake Lewis and Jason DiSalvo round out the front row. It marked the first front-row start for Lewis.

Two-time race winner Joe Roberts came through to nail down pole in SportBike with a 1:56.566 on his California Superbike School Roadracingworld.com Racing Honda. He was the only rider in that class to dip into the 56s.

Both Beaubier and Roberts’ times were class records at Miller.
