The following is from Ben Bostrom Events…
DENVER, Colo. (July 2, 2013) – International motorcycle racing star Ben Bostrom and longtime professional motorsports promoter M1 have joined forces to form Ben Bostrom Events. This new promotions company will host world-class cycling and running events in major markets across the United States. The high-intensity events will feature an entertainment-filled atmosphere, combining many of the familiar fundamentals found at other MOB (mud, obstacles, beer) racing events with the environment and production elements that made the M1-promoted World Superbike and AMA Pro Road Racing events so popular with fans and participants alike over the past two decades.
Bostrom enjoyed a lengthy and successful career professional motorcycle racing spanning two decades, participating – and winning – in practically every top-level discipline and series in the world. His accolades, which include multiple wins in World Superbike, an AMA Pro SuperBike Championship, an AMA Supermoto Championship, an AMA National 600cc Dirt Track Championship and an X-Games Gold medal in Supermoto, have made him a household name in the world of professional motorsports. In order to attain the high levels of physical fitness required to compete in the upper echelons of motorcycle racing, Bostrom has trained almost daily on bicycles for decades.
“I love all toys with 2 wheels,” Bostrom said. “This is partially what allowed me to hang up my motorcycle leathers and slip into bicycle lycra so easy… without the standard regret or fear of losing my lifelong passion for dragging my knee and hanging out with all the friends I’ve enjoyed in the paddock for years. Luckily, most of my throttle-twisting friends have the same passion for the bicycle as I do and I realized that Mountain Biking and Road Cycling are sports that we can all do on two wheels competitively – in our respective age groups of course – until we say ‘that’s it.’ Once a competitor, always a competitor!
“After hitting many bicycle events to feed that competitive itch, it hit me that I would love to create an event that tested myself and others like me with the ultimate challenge… Mountain Biking and Road Cycling all in one weekend. I personally love Mountain Biking and Road Cycling between friends, with a bit of beer and music thrown in for good measure, but how could I create such an event and where?
“Well, that was the easy part actually. I headed to the mountains of Colorado and called the best promoters in my past sport… M1! Cameron Gray and I-San Hung have been doing this style of promotion for 17 years in motorsports, bringing the fans and riders to the best venues each year with great races, rider/fan interaction and family activities to enjoy all weekend long. As a rider and personal friend I was always blown away by their knack for finding sponsors and bringing different activities to provide the fans with a new weekend experience each year, and we plan to do the same thing with Ben Bostrom Events.”
M1 is best known as the creator and promoter of the Honda Superbike Classic at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which ran from 1995 to 2004. For 10 years, the Honda Superbike Classic was one of the most successful motorcycle events in the United States, drawing close to 100,000 fans over each three-day schedule. It was the first event in the world to combine World Superbike and AMA Pro SuperBike on the same weekend.
Other notable M1 events have included the creation of the now-popular doubleheader weekend for GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing’s premier AMA Pro SuperBike class with the Big Kahuna Nationals (1998-2000, 2005-2009, 2012), The Reno Supermoto Classic (2004, The Red Bull Supermoto A-Go-Go (2005) and the popular Suzuki CycleFest (2003-2006) in Copper Mountain, Colorado and Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado.
“The motorcycle racing and cycling industries have so many crossovers and synergies, this concept was just a natural fit for M1 in so many ways,” said Cameron Gray, CEO of M1. “Ben and I started out in the AMA Superbike paddock together in 1995, I was just beginning my career as a promoter and Ben was just beginning to build his legacy on the Harley-Davidson 883. When he approached me to discuss his vision for Ben Bostrom Events, I was excited by the concept and ready to get to work. Ben is like family, and to be a business partner with him was a natural fit.”
