Valentino Rossi Still Very Rich

Paul Carruthers | June 7, 2013

Valentino Rossi took a pay cut to get back on the factory Yamaha after two years with Ducati, but most of us might not need tissue when we learn that the multi-time World Champion has slipped from 20th to 51st on the Forbes list of the top 100 moneymakers in sports.

Rossi will make $22 million in 2013.

The list is led by Tiger Woods, the golfer returning to the top after losing it last year to Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Woods held the top spot from 2001 to 2012, before running into issues with women, trees and sponsors (not necessarily in that order). But he has since regained not only his golf game, but his number-one ranking and fortune. The native Californian who now calls Florida home leads the way with annual earnings of $78.1 million.

Tennis great Roger Federer is second on the list with Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant third.

The top motorsports earner is Formula One star Lewis Hamilton, the Brit earning $27.5 million per annum.
