Defending and two-time AMA Grand National Champion Jared Mees will miss the next two rounds of the series with a broken arm. Mees broke his right arm during practice for a regional event at Ashland County Fairgrounds in Ohio, last Friday night.

“The plan right now is to return to racing at the Grays Harbor Half Mile in Elma, Washington on July 20th,” Mees said in a news release.

Mees had surgery on the arm on Sunday morning, but doctors told him it would be at least three weeks before he could return to racing. Mees said his pain will slowly subside, but the risk for infection is there because there was some hardware involved in the surgery.

“I’ll have to take it easy for the next few weeks, but I plan on being at Lima to spectate,” Mees said.” My spirits are good, and I am eager to get back racing”

The injury is a major blow to Mees’ chances to defend his number-one plate. Mees is ranked seventh coming into this Saturday’s Lima Half Mile National.
