Kailub Russell inched a little closer to series points leader Charlie Mullins with his second win in a row in the AMSOIL GNCC Series. The FMF KTM rider pretty much led from start to finish at the Mountaineer GNCC in Masontown, West Virginia, June 16.
Mullins, Russell’s teammate, didn’t have one of his better rides but still got on the podium with a third-place finish on the wet and slick racecourse.
Kawasaki-mounted Josh Strang finished out the race between the two KTM riders after putting together another solid ride.
KTM rider Chris Bach looked to be headed for a podium. He was holding down second late in the race when he got tangled up with a lapped rider and dropped to fourth.
Defending champ Paul Whibley, on the Am/Pro Yamaha, got off to another fast start but slipped to fifth before it was all over. The New Zealander says his injured hand is pretty much all healed but admits he needs to get back up to winning pace again – soon.
In the XC2 Pro Lites class, KTM rider Jason Thomas captured his first win of the season, whittling a couple of points from leader Grant Baylor, who finished second.
Third went to KTM rider Layne Michael.
Baylor still holds a 14-point lead over Thomas.
