Beaubier Sweeps Barber DSB

A year later and the same results - Cameron Beaubier was perfect again in Daytona SportBike winning the second race on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park to earn a clean sweep of the weekend just as he did last year. His margin of victory over rival Jake Gagne was 6.326 seconds. What the raw numbers dont show is that Gagne actually chased down and ran nose to tail with Beaubier for much of the middle portions of the race but once there Gagne could find no way around. A year later and the same results – Cameron Beaubier was perfect again in Daytona SportBike winning the second race on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park to earn a clean sweep of the weekend, just as he did last year.  His margin of victory over rival Jake Gagne was 6.326 seconds. What the raw numbers don’t show is that Gagne actually chased down and ran nose to tail with Beaubier for much of the middle portions of the race, but once there Gagne could find no way around.

Beaubier, on the Yamaha Extended Service R6, looked much more comfortable at the torrid pace he and Gagne were setting. Eventually the relentless perfect lap after lap by Beaubier broke Gagne and in the closing laps a gap opened up and widened between them.

Third on the day was JD Beach, scoring his second podium of the season and matching his best result of 2013. Beach was assisted by a mistake on the part of Garrett Gerloff. Gerloff, along with three other riders, jumped the start and was assessed a five-second time penalty. So even though he finished third on the track Gerloff’s penalty ultimately moved him to fourth.

Dane Westby rounded out the top five, making a late-race charge past Jake Lewis and James Rispoli to secure the spot.

Jason DiSalvo, the front-row starter who scored a podium in Saturday’s race, ran among the leaders in the early laps, but dropped off the pace and eventually had to settle for eighth.

“I knew Jake was fast all week so I knew he’d be right there,” Beaubier said of his race with Gagne. “I looked up at the tower and saw Jake was second so I just tried to get a good pace going and halfway through I tried to get down to some 27s and was able to pull a little bit of a gap.”

Beaubier, now with four wins in five races, extended his series lead in the series over Gagne to 28 points (152-124).  Beach moved ahead of Gerloff for third.
