Stewart, Canard And Barcia Round Out The Top 5 At Hangtown

Press Release | May 20, 2013

The following is from Yoshimura…

Race fans watched the gates drop on the opening round of the 2013 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship at the historic Hangtown race track in NorCal. Leading the way at the season’s first event were the Yoshimura R&D backed riders in the premier 450MX field, putting 3 riders inside the top 5.

Yoshimura R&D Suzuki’s James Stewart made his return to racing in a big way. Grabbing the holeshot in both motos, and riding to a consistent and smooth 3rd overall. In each moto, Stewart rode strong, never leaving the top 3.

Yoshimura-backed Muscle Milk Honda teammates Trey Canard and Justin Barcia charged their way to top 5 overall finishes. Despite the stacked talent pool of the 450MX class, Canard and Barcia could not be separated as the duo went 4-4 and 5-5 respectively.

RCH Suzuki and Yoshimura rider, Broc Tickle went 14-12 and netted himself a 12th overall.

In the 250’s, the Yoshimura R&D backed GEICO Honda squad had an arsenal of riders descend on the opening round. Eli Tomac, Zach Osborne, Justin Bogle, and Zach Bell all lined up to do battle with 36 more of the fastest small bike riders in the world. Tomac showed that he has what it takes to be a force this year and the speed to challenge his championship rivals. He finished a strong 2nd in the first moto and followed up with a 3rd in moto 2; which earned him a podium finish for 3rd overall. Teammate Zach Osborne struggled a bit in moto 1 with a 9th place finish, but redeemed himself in moto 2 with 5th, which netted a 5th place overall for the day. The 2013 Hangtown National also marked the long awaited return of GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle. Bogle sat out from Supercross this year, due to a severe wrist injury. He finished 12th overall; a solid ride, and an excellent foundation to start the 2013 outdoors. Zach Bell grabbed the moto 2 holeshot, but as the pack made it around for lap 1, he was nowhere to be seen. The first lap incident would be enough to prevent Bell from being a force at the first round.

The Yoshimura R&D riders and teams head next to the Thunder Valley Motocross in Lakewood, CO on Saturday May 25th.
