Arana Jr Wins Houston NHRA Pro Stock

| April 29, 2013

It has been more than five months since Lucas Oil Buell’s Hector Arana last lost a round of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competition. Arana went winless during the 2012 season, but is a perfect three-for-three in 2013 following his latest win against Sovereign/Star Buell’s Scotty Pollacheck at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston.

“To start the season with three wins is awesome,” Arana Jr. said. “Of all three races, this is the most nervous I’ve been because I know how hard it is to keep going. There are so many excellent riders out here and you always think about what could go wrong.”

Duplicating his performance from the Charlotte round a week earlier, Arana Jr. qualified number one with a 6.87. It was the 12th time in his 35-race career that he’s taken the top spot. Arana carried that momentum over to race day where he was consistently quick in his wins over his father, Hector Sr., Shawn Gann, and Viper Motorcycle Co. Buell’s John Hall.

Arana’s best performance came in the quarterfinal round against his father’s similar Lucas Oil entry. The younger Arana got a big jump at the start and held on for a holeshot win with his 6.906 defeating Hector Sr’s. 6.902 elapsed time.

“My dad didn’t say much afterwards,” Arana Jr. said. “I think ‘good job’ was about all he had to say. My bike has not been the quickest this year, but we are making consistent runs. As a rider, I’ve also been very consistent and that’s a lethal combination.”
