Mullins Looking To Extend Points Lead At Sandlapper

Pelion, South Carolina, March 2, 2013 – Charlie Mullins looked good during warmups this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow’s Sandlapper Enduro, round two of the Rekluse AMA National Enduro Series in Pelion, South Carolina.

The FMF/KTM rider won the opening round of the series last month in Georgia, so he will be starting from row 21, the first of the Pro rows, and will be leading a strong contingent of Pros into each of the six tests in the 65-mile race.

Looking to unseat Mullins will be a bevy of factory and satellite-supported riders, including Husaberg teammates Michael Lafferty and Russell Bobbitt, and AirGroup Racing’s Nick Fahringer.

In a surprise move, Lafferty has elected to ride Husaberg’s 350FE four-stroke, instead of the two-stroke 250 TE he’s been riding for over a year.

Also looking to head Mullins off at the pass are Yamaha riders Brad Bakken on the Obermeyer/Raines Riding University Yamaha, and Am Pro Yamaha’s Jesse Groemm. The duo finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in Georgia and have as good a shot as anyone at landing on the podium this weekend.

A couple of riders not to be overlooked are FAR Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong and Shenandoah/WEC Honda’s Thad DuVall. DuVall was impressive during the early going at round one, and DeLong should be in the groove after spending the week riding the local terrain.

Though today was overcast and cold, the forecast for tomorrow is cold and sun, which should make for a perfect day for racing.
