Interview: Supercross Surprise Joey Savatgy

Shan Moore | February 20, 2013

You may have seen the number-176 JDR Motorsports/J-Star KTM running near the front of the pack at many of the 250 main events this year and probably wondered just who that is getting all those great starts and making life difficult for some of the top riders of the class, like Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac. Well, his name is Joey Savatgy (sa-va-chee).

The kid from Georgia is making more than a few waves in his rookie year on the circuit and is currently sitting in eighth place in the 250 West Regional Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series points standings. And it would probably be even higher had it not been for a couple of very understandable “rookie” mistakes on the track. But, without a doubt, Savatgy has been catching on quickly to this Supercross thing and has been turning a lot of heads, including ours.
