Fausto Gresini places a plaque in the ground that will remain in Turn 11 on a permanent basis to honor of Marco Simoncelli.

Almost a year ago, Marco Simoncelli lost his life in the Malaysian Grand Prix. Today the MotoGP fraternity paid tribute to the Italian with teams and riders making the walk from the paddock to Turn 11, the site of the crash that took Simoncelli’s life. At the site, San Carlo Honda team owner Fausto Gresini placed a plaque in the ground that will remain in Turn 11 on a permanent basis to honor his former star rider.

Following a moment’s silence, a round of applause and then a two-minute period of silence, team members and riders went up to the plaque to pay their own private respects.

Simoncelli was killed on the second lap of last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix on October 23.
