AVONDALE, LA, OCT. 7 – Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff won his first AMA Supersport race of the season, the youngster bouncing back after suffering a broken femur in the first practice session of the first race of the year at Daytona to earn a victory today at the NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana.

Gerloff won this one going away, the 17 year old beating yesterday’s runaway winner Hayden Gillim and his RoadRace Factory Yamaha R6 by 11.762 seconds. Newly crowned AMA Supersport West and overall Supersport Champion James Rispoli ended up a distant third on the Celtic Racing/Orient Express Racing Suzuki GSX-R600.

An equally lonely fourth went to Tomas Puerta on the second RoadRace Factory entry.

The battle for fifth provided the entertainment with Triumph-mounted Dustin Dominguez besting Harv Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman by just .060 of a second with Best Book 1 Kawasaki’s Ryan Kerr just .039 of a second behind Wyman in seventh. Miles Thorton and Elena Myers were also in the pack chasing fifth.

Stefano Mesa and Jake Lewis rounded out the top 10. Like Rispoli yesterday, Lewis was in the win-a-championship mode and his cautious ride to 10th earned him the Supersport East title, 256-245, over Dominguez.
