Dominguez Doubles, Ties for Points Lead

LEXINGTON, OHIO, JULY 15 – Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez moved into a tie for the Supersport East championship by sweeping both ends of the double-header with a narrow win in Sunday’s red flag-interrupted race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The Oklahoman was in the lead and streaming away when the race was stopped by a fallen motorcycle on the entrance to the esses on the seventh of 18 laps. That negated his lead and set the scene for an 11-lap final, the race shortened by one lap.

Celtic Racing/Orient Express Racing/National Guard’s James Rispoli led the first two laps of the re-start before Dominguez came by on the brakes at the end of the back straight into Turn 6. Road Race Factory/Red Bull Yamaha’s Hayden Gillim slotted into third for the best view of the action.

Rispoli took the lead on the eighth lap into the Keyhole, only to lose it in Turn 6 not long after. There was some movement at the front towards the end of the lap, but Dominguez held the lead for the end of the lap and all that remained.

Rispoli’s last lap hopes came to nothing and he had to watch Dominguez win his second race in as many days. Rispoli was second at .489 sec. with Gillim third at .559 sec.

Dominguez is now tied with Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis, eighth today, on points at 161, with Lewis nominally on top by virtue of more second place finishes. Stefano Mesa, today’s fourth place finisher, is third in points at 138.
