HRC Boss: “We Will Build A Customer Bike”

| June 26, 2012

It’s called having your cake and eating it too.

Dorna, the guys who run the MotoGP World Championship, are struggling to find a way to have their dream solution to the pressures of modern-day cost issues: Lower cost prototype racing that features all the major motorcycle factories.

For 2013 Honda is considering requesting a freeze on engine development and lowering the number of engines to five for the full year. Those changes would play to Honda’s strengths, but they would slow down the top players a little. And a single-bike rule is also still under consideration. For 2015 there’s likely more to come: Dorna want “control” ECUs with restricted software to reduce costs and improve the show.
