Aaron Yates For WERA Return

Cycle News Staff | June 5, 2012

Former AMA Superbike factory rider and nine-time AMA Superbike race winner Aaron Yates will compete in the WERA National Endurance Series as part of the BEi Racing/Dunlop Development team.

Two-time AMA Superstock Champion Yates, 38, has been out of racing since suffering serious leg injuries in an AMA Superbike qualifying crash at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, in 2010.

“I have known Aaron since we were kids racing motocross,” said team owner Billy Ethridge. “We started talking at Daytona this year about him getting back on track, and he feels like this is a great opportunity to test himself. We are Dunlop’s sponsored development team and we are racing Suzukis. Aaron has a long history with both Dunlop and Suzuki. It’s a natural fit for everyone.”

Yates will join current team riders Tim Bemisderfer, Opie Caylor, and Billy Ethridge for this weekend’s WERA 6-Hour endurance race at Road Atlanta. The race will be held on Friday, June 8 starting at 10:30 a.m.
