Joan Lascorz Continues Recovery in Spain

Kawasaki Racing’s Joan Lascorz continues to undergo treatment at a hospital in Spain to determine the full extent of his injuries following his devastating crash in Monday’s World Superbike test in Imola, Italy.

The second year World Superbike rider suffered injuries to his C6 vertebra when he crashed in the first practice session following last weekend’s second round of the World Superbike Championship.

He was initially treated at the Maggiore Hospital in Italy, where his vertebra was relocated, after which he was flown to his home country of Spain for further treatment. The first press release issued by the team since he arrived in Spain says that he is “now continuing his recovery in Spain, at the Valle Hebron hospital in Barcelona. He is undergoing further checks and treatment for the injuries he suffered to his C6 vertebra.”

The swelling around the affected area continues to prevent doctors from making a diagnosis about the extent of his neurological injuries. Once the swelling subsides, a more accurate long term prognosis can be made.

Given the extent of his injuries, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be able to take part in the next round of the championship on the weekend of April 20-22 in Assen, Holland.
