Defending Daytona 200 champion Jason DiSalvo and his Latus Motors Racing team will pay tribute to the late Gary Nixon during Bike Week at Daytona International Speedway with DiSalvo’s Triumph and leathers clad in the color scheme used by Nixon in the late 1960s and early ‘70s.
The Nixon family will also be in attendance to watch DiSalvo compete on the Nixon-lookalike Triumph.
In addition, the Triumph triple that Nixon raced in 1970, the predecessor to DiSalvo’s 675R triple, will be on display at the team’s garage area. Even the Latus Motors Racing crew will don uniforms inspired by that time period.
Commemorative t-shirts that benefit the Gary Nixon Memorial Fund for aspiring racers will be on sale at Triumph of Daytona throughout Daytona Bike Week.
“Gary left an incredible legacy in this sport and we want to do our part to preserve his memory,” said George Latus, owner of Latus Motors Racing. “We’re looking forward to seeing the Nixon family at the track and paying homage to Gary’s achievements.”
DiSalvo will revert to his #40 and the team’s traditional livery in the Daytona SportBike class at the second round of the series – the Big Kahuna Atlanta, April 20-22.
Dustin Dominguez also returns to the team for the second consecutive season. Dominguez won race one at Mid-Ohio last year and will again compete in the SuperSport class.
