Mark “Tex” Adams, James Stewart’s practice mechanic on the JGR Yamaha team, was killed this morning after being struck by a vehicle while helping a motorist on the side of westbound Interstate 4 in Volusia County, Florida, according to reports in the Orlando Sentinel.

Adams, 28, had pulled over to help Tiffany Walters, 23, who had parked her Land Rover on the right shoulder in Lake Helen after running out of gas. Adams parked his truck behind hers and was standing adjacent to the driver’s door when a Chevy SUV drifted to the right shoulder, hitting both cars and Adams. Charges are pending on the driver of the vehicle, the Sentinel reports.

Adams, a resident of Carrolton, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“I’m stunned because Tex was such a caring and doing-for-others person,” Stewart wrote on his Twitter page. “My heart goes out to his family. Damn this is a sad day. We love you Tex R.I.P.”
