Round two of the Monster Energy Supercross Series takes place tomorrow night at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and walking through the pits one gets a much more mellow vibe compared to the high-pitch feeling you felt in the A1 pits last week. All of the teams rolled into their respective parking places early this morning and for the most part, mechanics we engaged in their normal routine of setting up awnings and putting the finishing touches on the bikes.
There is one bit of hype going around the pits, however, and that centered around the news that factory Honda’s Trey Canard will be making his return to racing after breaking his collarbone during pre-season testing. It’ll be cool to see where the Oklahoma rider fits into the final order and if he’ll be pushing it as hard as he can, or work back up to speed slowly. For sure, Canard doesn’t want to risk another injury any time soon.
For everyone who is NOT Ryan Villopoto, it’s time to get on the stick. For sure, guys like Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey and James Stewart can’t afford Villopoto to establish too big of a lead this early in the series. But Phoenix is always a good track for racing, so it should be a little bit tighter this week.
A look in the Troy Lee pits reveals a red number plate on Cole Seely’s bike, symbolizing the points leader. No doubt, perinnial favorites Pro Circuit Kawasaki and Factory Connection Honda will be gunning to get back to the top step of the podium. Should be an interesting race.
