And so it begins. Marc Coma started his comeback from yesterday’s navigating debacle with his second stage win of this year’s Dakar Rally today, the Spaniard clawing back some two minutes on race leader Cyril Despres.
Coma was fast all day in the stage that took the field from the Argentinian town of San Juan to Chilecito with the race featuring a special stage of 202 miles. And at the end of the day he trailed Despres by eight minutes and 10 seconds – a day after taking the wrong route and finishing sixth in the stage.
Third place in today’s stage went to Sherco Rally Raid’s Frans Verhoeven, the Dutchman who finished second to Despres in yesterday’s stage.
Then came Yamaha’s Hector Rodrigues, the Portuguese rider climbing to third overall behind the two factory KTMs after ending up fourth today.
Fourth place overall is being held by Aprilia’s Francisco Lopez, the Chilean rider
Seventh in both yesterday’s and today’s stages.
Fifth overall is being held by Yamaha’s David Casteu, the Frenchman slipping back two spots in the overall standings after ending today’s stage in ninth place.
