Johnson, Bowers Top Wilkes Barre Arenacross

Chad Johnson and Tyler Bowers of the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki, presented by Maxxis team, came away with wins at the AMA Arenacross Championship round in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, December 9-10. Johnson collected his first win of the season on Friday night, while Bowers finished it off win a win Saturday night.

On Friday night, Jeff Gibson, aboard the FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda, and Johnson fought for the lead until Johnson made the pass for the point on the 14th lap and stayed there for the rest of the race. Gibson held on to finish second, followed by Gibson’s teammate Cole Siebler and KTM rider Kelly Smith.

Bowers finished fifth after falling while running third.

On Saturday night, Bowers had to come from behind, passing Smith on the 16th lap to take the eventual win, his fourth of the season. Smith finished second, followed by Johnson and Gibson.

Gibson, however, still holds the points lead but by just six over Bowers, 144-138. Johnson is third with 129.

Ohio’s Michael Willard, on the Dragon Racing Fuels/AG Motorsports KTM, dominated the Arenacross Lites class, winning both Friday and Saturday night’s main events. Kawasaki rider Michael McDade finished second both times.

Willard leads McDade by five points in the Eastern Regional Lites Championship.

Bowers and Robbie Skaggs won the Dash For Cash events, where all proceeds went to Toys For Tots.
