Whibley Again At Millville OMA

Paul Whibley apparently likes to race – a lot – and when he doesn’t get to do so, it doesn’t bode well for his competition. After a brief summer hiatus in the Parts Unlimited Off-road Motorcycle and ATV Nationals schedule, the last half of the 10-round series kicked off with the FMF Spring Creek Grand Prix at the Spring Creek MX Park near Millville, Minnesota, on July 31. There, the three-time and defending series champion absolutely scorched the seven-mile course that utilized much of the vaunted National motocross track as well as miles of trails in the hilly woods that comprise much of the facility.

From jetting out front to earn the $200 FMF Holeshot Award to taking the checkered flag two hours, 10 minutes and 36 seconds later, the FMF/Am Pro Yamaha star dominated the even that served as round six and was co-sanctioned with the MXC Series. On a day where the heat and humidity proved too much for several competitors, Whibley shined, controlling the pace all afternoon. Obermeyer/FMF Yamaha’s Jordan Ashburn would earn second, almost five minutes behind, with Beta’s Chris Bach third after stopping to strip off some of his gear in an attempt to stay a bit cooler.

The Spring Creek victory marked Whibley’s fifth consecutive triumph and stretched his series points lead over Ashburn another five points. “I’d like to continue this winning streak to the end of the season, but Jordan and Chris here might have something to say about that,” Whibley quipped. “We’ll see how it goes.”

American Honda/GEICO Powersports/JG Off-road’s Jimmy Jarrett and teammate Scott Watkins rounded out the top five on their CRF450Rs.
