Southwick MX Wrap-Up

While most of New England held their breath at home on Saturday waiting for a visit from Hurricane Irene, Brett Metcalfe was on a mission to fulfill a dream that was nearly a decade in the making.

The transplanted Australian beat the elements and 39 other riders at the MX338 National at Southwick. On a day filled with dramatic twists, dashed hopes and inspirational performances, “Metty” rode his Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 to 3-2 moto finishes, beating series points leader Ryan Villopoto “straight-up” in the second moto for the overall win, his first in America after eight years of trying.

Despite the problems Ryan Dungey experienced at Southwick, Ryan Villopoto (2) could only gain one point on his nearest championship rival.
