Interview: Blake Young

Paul Carruthers | August 26, 2011

It was just a year ago that Blake Young was a mopey mess. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider showed up at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the combined MotoGP/AMA Superbike races at the end of July in a back brace and with the dour disposition of an injured man who’d been on the couch watching a promising career circle the drain. And just to add a bit more fuel to the fire, Young’s team had brought in Australian Josh Waters to replace him.Fortunately for Young, that didn’t pan out as Waters crashed at Willow Springs during testing and suffered a concussion that would end up keep him from competing at Laguna. Still, Young was full of doubt as to whether the idle Suzuki GSX-R1000 sitting under the Yoshimura Suzuki tent would be his in 2011.

Turns out it would. And he’d put it to good use.
