KTM swept round 13 of the FIM Motocross World Championship, with defending MX1 champ Antonio Cairoli taking the MX1-class win and Ken Roczen the MX2-class victory at Great Britain’s Matterley Basin, August 21. For Cairoli, it was his fifth overall win of the year, and for Roczen, it was his eighth.

Cairoli got off to a 12th-place start in the first moto but worked his way up to third at the checkered flag. The second moto went much smoother for the Italian who grabbed the holeshot and never looked back.

Second overall went to CLS Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel. Pourcel ran second for most of the moto before passing Yamaha’s Steven Frossard late in the race to take the win. A crash early in the second moto forced Pourcel out of the second moto with a damaged bike, but he got second chance when the race was red flagged due to a crash by Billy Mackenzie and Tanel Leok, which allowed him to make the restart. He ended up third, giving Pourcel second overall. (Mackenzie and Leok were shaken up in the fall but were not seriously injured.)

A 2-2 gave Frossard third overall, followed by KTM’s Max Nagle and Honda rider Brad Anderson of Great Britain.

Roczen won both motos putting him in position to clinch the MX2 title when the series resumes in his home country of Germany in two weeks. Roczen enjoys a large points lead over teammate Jeffrey Herlings, who went 7-3 on the day.

Second overall went to CLS Kawasaki’s Tommy Searle who went 2-2, while Monster Energy Yamaha’s Paul Gautier took third with a 4-4. Herlings and Yamaha’s Arnaud Tonus rounded out the top five overall.
