Red Bull Teka KTM’s Antonio Cairoli and Jeff Herlings came away with the overall wins yesterday at the Grand Prix of Limburg, held in the deep sand of Lommel, Belgium.
Both Cairoli and Herlings went 1-1 in the MX1 and MX2 classes, respectively. Cairoli got off to fast starts in both MX1 motos.Cairoli had to work hard for his win in the first moto, despite grabbing the holeshot on his 350 SX-F. The defending champ was hounded by Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle but was able to hold off the home country favorite, Desalle. Cairoli had it easier in the second moto, while extending his championship lead to 55 points over Desalle, who ended up second overall on the day with a 2-4.
Third overall with a 5-2 was German KTM rider Max Nagle, and fourth overall with a 6-4 was Russian Honda pilot Evgeny Bobryshev. Steve Frossard of France rounded out the top five overall.Herlings shines in the sand – when he’s not flying over it.Sand specialist Herlings dominated the MX2 class. The Dutchman finished well ahead of series leader and teammate Ken Roczen in both motos but is still 21 points out of first in the standings.Third overall went to another KTM rider Jeremy van Horebeek of Belgium. Kawasaki’s Max Anstie and Yamaha’s Gautier Paulin completed the top five overall.American Zach Osborne did not compete after having injured his shoulder while competing in a British Championship the week earlier.
