Trey Canard To Return This Weekend

Cycle News Staff | July 12, 2011

Trey Canard will make his return to the AMA Lucas Oils Motocross Series this weekend when the series heads to Spring Creek in Millville, Minnesota. Canard suffered a broken femur almost three months ago, prematurely ending his Supercross season after he’d won three races.

Canard was testing his factory Honda CRF450F for the outdoor season when he crashed and suffered the injury.

“Knowing that I’m only days away from racing again and to be racing my first-ever 450-class Motocross event feels awesome,” said Canard in a Honda release. “Since getting back on my bike and training for motos, everything has gone smoothly. I love riding the CRF450R and can’t wait to race it outdoors. I’ve been riding a lot at home in Oklahoma, and I’ve spent time in Southern California testing with the Honda team. I feel really good and the team has given me a lot of support. However, I expect it will take a little while to get up to full race speed.”

Canard won eight motos en route to winning the 250 class Motocross title last year, including a second-moto win at Spring Creek – right where he will make his 450 class debut on Saturday.

Naturally, Honda team manager Erik Kehoe is eager to have Canard back on track.

“We are excited to see what Trey can do at the remaining six rounds in the Motocross series,” said Kehoe. “Trey has made a lot of progress in a short period of time since getting back on his bike. He’s an incredibly focused and determined racer, and I think that within a few races he will be mixing it up with the front-runners.”
