Mees Wins Hartford Half Mile

Jared Mees won his second race of the season last night, the Harley-Davidson mounted Michigander winning the first half-mile of the AMA Harley-Davidson Grand National Championship at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, Michigan.

Mees topped Kenny Coolbeth Jr. to win his second race in the last three rounds of the series with Bryan Smith finishing third. Mees, the 2009 AMA Grand National Champion, beat Coolbeth by a tick over three seconds. Mees also won the points-paying Dash For Cash over the Kawasaki of Johnny Lewis.

Fourth place in last night’s main event went to Chris Carr with Lewis rounding out the top five.

Grand National Championship points leader Sammy Halbert finished sixth last night, but he still leads the championship by nine points over defending AMA Grand National Champion Jake Johnson, with Johnson finishing eighth last night. Mees is third in the title chase – 17 points behind Halbert. Mees does, however, lead the Twins portion of the championship by 14 over Halbert.
