David Gaviria Wins at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, WI, JUNE 4 – Team LTD’s David Gaviria (Yam) stretched his championship points lead with a start-to-finish romp in the West SuperSport race at Road America.The 26-year-old Gaviria took control at the start of the 10-lap race and immediately began to pull a gap. It peaked at 3.520 secs. at the halfway point and slowly came down. At the end of the 40.48-mile race he’d won by 1.388 secs.

“It was very difficult for me,” Gaviria said of setting the pace. “I was thinking about that before the race, because being in the lead of the race is pretty difficult, because you don’t know if you are fast or you are slow.”The win was his second of the year and gave him a cushion of 33 points after five rounds. His nearest rival, Benny Solis (Red Bull/Roadracingworld.com Honda), finished fifth and trails Gaviria 160 to 127. Vesrah Suzuki’s Corey Alexander, the winner last weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, earned 18 points for winning the battle for fourth over Solis and sits third with 119 points.Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman (Yam) drafted past ANT-Racing.com’s James Rispoli (Suz) at the line ending the fifth lap. Rispoli pressured to the final lap when Wyman was able to pull away by 1.386 secs. Then came Alexander and Solis.The race was Wyman’s first this season in the SuperSport class and his first SuperSport podium.Pole-sitter and East SuperSport points leader Tomas Puerta (Team LTD Yamaha) failed to complete the first lap.
