Windham, Cunningham Fast in Seattle

“That track is brutal right now,” Kevin Windham said of the Seattle Supercross track. “Those laps tonight are going to be tough.” Windham, last year’s Seattle Supercross winner, already appears to be a crowd favorite at Qwest Field. “K-Dub” set the hot lap in the 450 class, edging out James Stewart by three thousandths of a second to top qualifying.

The rain held off for most of Saturday and skies were much bluer than earlier forecasts predicted, but the dirt in the stadium is still soft and spongy, making for a rutty track and sticky conditions. The track claimed several victims in the practice sessions including Jimmy DeCotis, who reportedly suffered a dislocated elbow.

Lites West points leader Josh Hansen had a hard get-off in the whoops and was laid out for nearly a minute before getting up. Hansen looked upset as he excited the track on foot, and may have re-injured his hand, but will hopefully still race tonight.

Windham took the pole position in the premier class followed closely by Stewart. Ryan Dungey slid into the third spot ahead of Andrew Short and Ryan Villopoto rounded out the top five ahead of Chad Reed, who had the sixth-quickest lap time.

In the Lites class, Kyle Cunningham set the hot lap over Cole Seely and Martin Davalos. Hansen notched the fourth-fastest time followed by his teammate and closest championship contender Broc Tickle, who rounded out the top-five.
