Lorenzo Celebrates at Home in Mallorca

Fiat Yamaha’s recently crowned MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo celebrated his championship with thousands of fellow Mallorcans on Tuesday night.Lorenzo celebrated with his team after clinching the 2010 MotoGP World Championship in Malaysia, but this was his homecoming and the first time his friends, family, and fellow Mallorcans could join in. Lorenzo was met by crowds and dignitaries at the airport, then enjoyed a parade through the capital city of Palma de Mallorca, which terminated at the Illes Balears Presidential Palace. Lorenzo presented one of his special ‘Astronaut’ helmets, similar to the one he wore in winning the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, to President Frances Antich. Then he greeted the assembled crowd from the palace balcony, spraying them with Champagne.Now the 23-year-old has a weekend off before the final two rounds of the championship, next weekend in Estoril, Portugal and the week after in Valencia, Spain.
